Donors of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Duke and Barbara Roos have inspired the newly-named Barbara and Duke Roos Living and Giving Award, offered by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Barbara and Duke Roos lost their daughter Debbie Roos Hoppenfeld to diabetes complications, and since then, have put a great philanthropic interest into Juvenile Diabetes research. Duke volunteers at Camp Kudzu for diabetic children, and has been named a National Diabetes Hero for raising more than $50,000 in Atlanta’s Walk to Cure Diabetes. Beyond their philanthropic giving of their time, talent and treasure, Duke says that they just “keep doing it, because you never know whose life you’re going to touch”.
