Morgan Nonprofits Boosted Through $25,000 in Grants from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta

ATLANTA, March 31, 2016 – The Morgan Fund, a county-centric fund of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, today awarded $25,000 in grants to five local nonprofits making a measurable difference toward Morgan’s future success. The grant distribution was the featured program at the Morgan County Kiwanis Club luncheon.

Sally Moran Hoge and Bruce Gilbert, members of the Community Foundation’s Morgan Fund Advisory Committee, presented grants of $5,000 each to these organizations:

Action Ministries, Inc.: Action Ministries mobilizes communities to address the challenges of poverty by focusing on hunger relief, housing and education.

Camp Twin Lakes, Inc.: Camp Twin Lakes provides year-round camp experiences for children with serious illnesses, disabilities and other life challenges to help each camper grow in their confidence and experience the joys of childhood.

Circle of Love Center, Inc.: Circle of Love Center is a safe haven and community outlet for victims of domestic violence as they flee from abusive homes.

Madison-Morgan Cultural Center: The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center enhances education and enjoyment of the arts and humanities by offering high quality permanent and temporary exhibitions as well as performances while preserving the historic building.

The Steffen Thomas Museum and Archives: The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the work of Master Artist Steffen Thomas and to providing art education programs and projects for children and adults. Ms. Hoge noted, “the application process was competitive, and we are excited to be awarding grants to these five organizations who really embody the great work being done in Madison and throughout Morgan County.”

The funds for today’s grants were raised by a combination of individual donations and matching funds from the Community Foundation. Kalie Lasiter, program associate with the Community Foundation, noted that, “the Morgan Fund was created in 2003 by a group of engaged citizens who focus on the needs and interests of Morgan County residents. Since its creation, the Morgan Fund has granted more than $327,000 to nonprofits in the county.” In addition to providing annual grants, the Morgan Fund offers philanthropic learning opportunities and community awareness activities, all with the goal of building philanthropy and improving the quality of life in Morgan County.

Morgan Fund Committee Member Joe Cardwell reminded nonprofit leaders and Kiwanis Club members how the Morgan Fund is making a difference in Morgan County. “These organizations are great examples of how our community works hard to ensure that our neighbors have access to critical support when needed, as well as the ability to experience the rich cultural heritage that makes Morgan County such a special place to live,” Cardwell remarked.
