Investment Oversight

Donors to The Community Foundation may request that their fund by invested according to one of our four investment options. The assets of The Community Foundation and the investment managers that serve under these investment options are closely monitored by the investment committee of The Community Foundation’s Board, a group of experienced investors and leaders from a variety of business backgrounds. As stewards of the Foundation’s assets, our investment committee holds the selected investment managers to the highest standards of ethical behavior and professional performance.

The Community Foundation Pool—a diversified portfolio of assets invested broadly among institutional money managers. Managers are selected by the investment committee of The Community Foundation’s Board with the assistance of a neutral investment consultant.

American Funds Option—a diversified portfolio of American Funds Mutual funds selected by the investment committee of The Community Foundation’s Board and purchased without commissions.

Money Market Option—a standard money market fund that is appropriate for funds wishing to protect principal and avoid market risk while earning money market rates of return.

Individually Managed Option—The Community Foundation permits donors with fund balances of $250,000 or more to recommend the investment advisor of their choice to manage the assets in their funds.

Investment Committee and Managers
The Investment Committee of the Board has been established by the Board and designated to oversee investment matters. The committee monitors the Foundation’s performance on a quarterly basis and oversees our investment policy.  We rely on the advice of an independent consultant, Colonial Consulting, LLC, to craft a long-term diversification strategy and select expert asset managers that invest each component of the Foundation Pool’s asset allocation.

Impact Philanthropy

Impact Philanthropy is an approach we're taking to further engage donors of The Community Foundation to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. Impact Philanthropy includes print, online and “community conversations” with nonprofits and donors – all with the focus of connecting donors with their passion and the needs of the community.

Through Impact Philanthropy, we help define the issues and opportunities nonprofits and those they serve are facing. Past editions of Impact Philanthropy have focused on Crisis Assistance in metro Atlanta, as well as the importance of the arts.
