For the Love of Reading Competition: February 8, 2010

APReadingBattle2.jpg

To celebrate its 10th year of service and success, Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is hosting the first annual For the Love of Reading competition, a friendly reading battle among CEOs and presidents of Georgia businesses and universities. Our very own Alicia Philipp is in the battle -- and she needs our votes!

To participate in the voting, watch the videos and vote once for free and as many times following with a $3 contribution, which will go to support more books delivered to the homes of Georgia children. The president with the most votes will be declared Georgia's Favorite Reader and be presented the "For the Love of Reading Award" at the Downtown Atlanta Rotary Club luncheon on March 1, 2010.

Since 2000, the Ferst Foundation has mailed more than 1.7 million books to more than 90,000 Georgia preschool students in 70 Georgia counties. During that time, The Community Foundation has supported the Ferst Foundation through donor-advised grants, as well as through multiple competitive grantmaking programs. To date, we have granted more than $750,000 to help improve early learning opportunities for Georgia’s children.

Our Philanthropic Framework

During 2008 The Community Foundation dedicated time to learn new ways we can strengthen the Atlanta region through philanthropy. We studied practices in the field, attended conferences, read research from experts and peers, and listened to our donors, nonprofits and community leaders. From this we have created Our Philanthropic Framework.

This is not a reinvention of The Community Foundation - it is simply our intent to clearly define how we do our work and how we'll know if we're making a difference.
