On May 19, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Southface Energy Institute and the Atlanta Chapter of IFMA (International Facility Management Association) joined forces to offer an essential half-day workshop for facility management staff of Grants to Green grantee organizations.
The workshop brought together 50 facility management staff members from 37 nonprofits to learn different ways to make their facilities greener and cut energy costs for their organization. Topics covered included preventative maintenance and building science, including an overview of the Georgia Energy Code, as well as Q&A with technical experts. Nonprofit staff also heard from Steve Morton, Energy Efficiency program manager for Georgia Power, about the company’s nonprofit rebate program.
Grants to Green is a partnership between The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and Southface Energy Institute. Launched in 2008, Grants to Green gives nonprofits the opportunity to renovate or build healthier work places that are environmentally efficient. Through the program, nonprofits can apply for Assessment awards to identify areas of improvement or Implementation grants, which allow the nonprofit to receive funding for specific recommendations. Upon receipt of an award, nonprofits select a Green Champion to shepherd their green efforts from conception to completion.
To date, Grants to Green has conducted seven funding cycles awarding more than $1.2 million in Implementation grants and 79 Assessment awards across the Foundation’s 23-county region. Nonprofits interested in applying for an Assessment award or Implementation grant have until June 28 to submit a Letter of Intent for Funding for the Summer grant cycle.
