Summer Fellow Program 2012: January 6, 2012

Logo_image_27.jpg

The Summer Fellowship is designed to share the work of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta with a current undergraduate student interested in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a community foundation over the course of a summer.  The fellowship lasts 10 weeks with concentrations in the Office of the President, Philanthropic Services, Community Partnerships, Finance & Operations, and Marketing & Communications.

Summer Agenda
The first week of the fellowship will introduce the fellow to the Foundation, its departments and staff in order to prepare him/her for specific assignments.  Approximately eight weeks of the fellowship will be divided among meetings with donors; internal meetings with staff and nonprofits; external meetings and site visits to nonprofit organizations; specific projects, including research for departments; and preparation of written memoranda of meetings attended.  The fellow will be invited to attend a wide variety of meetings to further develop his/her understanding of philanthropy and the role of The Community Foundation.  Part of the fellow’s responsibilities will be to summarize meetings attended and share information with key staff.  These materials will become part of our organizational library.  The last week(s) will be spent completing research and preparing an end of fellowship report for presentation at a staff meeting.

Highlights

Building Our Communities through Philanthropy

While many in the region know The Community Foundation for our grantmaking programs, we play a wide variety of roles in creating philanthropic solutions to our communities’ most pressing problems. These roles are as varied as the challenges our Atlanta region faces, but they each start with the premise that communities are built, improved and strengthened by the passion, ideas and resources of its people.
