Capturing stories of our donors

At The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, we work with families of different sizes, compositions, interests and values. One of the core underpinnings of philanthropy as a family is storytelling. So much of our donors’ philanthropy is interwoven with their life stories. It might be an experience from childhood; a loved one’s battle with cancer; a class in college that changed a career path; or even driving downtown and encountering our city’s homeless.
Each of us has a story to share with loved ones – stories that remind, inform, inspire and guide.

A few months ago, we were so fortunate to hear from Dave Issay, Founder and CEO of StoryCorps, serving as keynote speaker for our Annual Donor Appreciation Event.

We invite you to visit the StoryCorps booth in Atlanta and share your story with a loved one or friend. You can also arrange for us to record the interview at your home or at our office. In total the experience takes about an hour. At the end of the 40 minute interview, you receive a CD recording of your conversation and another CD is archived with the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps Atlanta is funded by The Community Foundation and we have created the Giving Project specifically for you, our donors, to share your stories with your family and friends. If you would like to record your story, please let us know and we will help you set up an appointment.

Our 2010 Annual Report

Recently released, our 2010 Annual Report focuses on the impact that we, along with our donors, nonprofits and community partners, have made in our 23-county region.

Last year’s financial contributions were a record $139 million and 2010 was our third highest year in grants made totaling $99 million. This year’s annual report shares the difference these investments have made…the needs met…and the lives changed.
