Charity Navigator has a strong reputation as “America's premier independent charity evaluator working to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace.” Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine recognized Charity Navigator on its “The Best List 2011.”

According to Sandra Miniutti, Vice President for Marketing and CFO, Charity Navigator developed its Top Ten lists per the request of its users (donors) as a “dynamic and fun way” to help users “slice and dice” data. To determine the organizations that were selected for inclusion on the “10 Top-Notch Charities” list, Charity Navigator searched its database of 5,500 charities to find organizations that 1) have a perfect accountability and transparency score of 70 and that 2) have an overall four-star rating based on Charity Navigator’s metrics. The Top Ten lists are “query driven.” They are based on criteria and are not based on personal recommendations.

Charity Navigator’s Top Ten Lists are calculated monthly whereas an organization’s overall star rating is determined annually upon review of the organizations most recent 990. Organizations are evaluated through two broad areas of performance; their Financial Health and their Accountability & Transparency.

Highlights

Our Philanthropic Framework

During 2008 The Community Foundation dedicated time to learn new ways we can strengthen the Atlanta region through philanthropy. We studied practices in the field, attended conferences, read research from experts and peers, and listened to our donors, nonprofits and community leaders. From this we have created Our Philanthropic Framework.

This is not a reinvention of The Community Foundation - it is simply our intent to clearly define how we do our work and how we'll know if we're making a difference.
