WABE hosted an educational community conversation on Tuesday, January 16 at The Gathering Spot that focused on the state legislature and policymaking. The after-hours session was titled “State Government Matters Too: A Crash Course on the Georgia Legislature” and featured an informative conversation between WABE’s state legislature reporters, Johnny Kauffman and Elly Yu. An eager crowd of 225 attended despite the impending snow storm to learn about topics such as leaders in the State House and Senate, how a bill is passed and the political dynamics between legislative and executive branches of Georgia’s state government.

The event was funded by a grant from the Community Foundation’s Civic Engagement Fund. The grant’s purpose is to launch a year-long series of community events focused on civic engagement and policy education specifically intended to engage non-voters between the ages of 18-29.
